NASCAR History
NASCAR clothing comes from NASCAR racing, the quintessential American motorsport tournament. This tournament has its origins in the smuggling of whiskey during its prohibition in the early part of the 20th century. In order to distribute their products, the so-called bootleggers used small, fast vehicles to outwit the police.
Moreover, many drivers began to modify car components to increase their speed and improve their handling. These changes meant that the bootleggers had better cars than the law enforcement officers themselves, which also created a kind of community among those drivers who evaded the police.
However, prohibition was repealed in 1933 and smuggling ended. Nevertheless, many gangs continued to improve their cars and started racing, this time for pride (and also for monetary retribution). These races became very popular in the southern US, with most races being those with modified cars. However, the car was changed internally, avoiding noticeable external changes, so that the police would not become suspicious.
Several separate races were formed across the country. It was Bill France Sr. who brought together the race promoters of the time to form a single competition, NASCAR, whose first race was held in 1948.
Since then, NASCAR has been gaining a huge following, reaching worldwide. As a result, there is a lot of NASCAR merchandising, and clothing is no exception.
